Zari is a pair of two-tone bangles in scrolling gold filigree, punctuated at intervals by round white pavé-textured medallions and finished with a scalloped edge rather than a straight one. Zari is the metal thread used in Indian brocade, which is what the surface imitates. Best worn for weddings and receptions.

Put it on last
After perfume, lotion and hairspray have dried. Alcohol and oils are what dull a plated finish faster than anything else.

Take it off first
Before you sleep, shower, swim or exercise. Chlorine, salt water and sweat are all harder on a finish than ordinary daily wear.

Wipe it down after wearing
A dry, soft cloth removes the skin oils that cause tarnish. No chemical cleaners and no ultrasonic baths on plated or stone-set pieces.

The story
About Zari
The scrollwork is built from twisted gold wire laid in vines, the same way zari is couched onto silk, and it carries the same granular glitter — up close you can see it is made of many small elements rather than cast as one.
The white medallions interrupt it at even spacing and give the eye somewhere to rest; without them the scrolling would read as busy rather than rich. The scalloped edge is the detail that dates the piece correctly: a straight edge would have made it contemporary, and this is meant to look like heirloom work.
