Put it on last
After perfume, lotion and hairspray have dried. Alcohol and oils are what dull a plated finish faster than anything else.

Take it off first
Before you sleep, shower, swim or exercise. Chlorine, salt water and sweat are all harder on a finish than ordinary daily wear.

Wipe it down after wearing
A dry, soft cloth removes the skin oils that cause tarnish. No chemical cleaners and no ultrasonic baths on plated or stone-set pieces.

The story
About Voyager
Charm necklaces work by accumulation: no single element is the subject, and the pleasure is in noticing the ship's wheel, then the heart, then the little enamelled flower. This one alternates elongated blue beads with baroque cream ones on a heavy gold curb chain, so there is a rhythm underneath the charms holding the whole thing together.
It is deliberately not a bridal piece. The palette is blue, cream, green and red on gold — a nautical, almost holiday register — and it does its best work against a plain top or a solid-colour dress where nothing competes with it. Wear it alone; there is already a lot happening.
