Put it on last
After perfume, lotion and hairspray have dried. Alcohol and oils are what dull a plated finish faster than anything else.

Take it off first
Before you sleep, shower, swim or exercise. Chlorine, salt water and sweat are all harder on a finish than ordinary daily wear.

Wipe it down after wearing
A dry, soft cloth removes the skin oils that cause tarnish. No chemical cleaners and no ultrasonic baths on plated or stone-set pieces.

The story
About Havana
Curb links are twisted and then flattened, which is what lets them fold against each other and sit level instead of rolling. That flat face is a large, uninterrupted surface, so a curb chain reads as more metal than a round chain of the same weight actually is.
It is the most familiar chain there is and that is its strength: it dates from nowhere in particular and so never looks of a particular year. Worn as the base of a layered set it gives the lighter chains above it something solid to sit against.
